FAQ
How do you provide your services?
My services are provided at a distance via video calls, as well as through document review, video analysis, and ongoing support between meetings. With years of experience working remotely, I’ve developed efficient methods to guide teams through creative, technical, and administrative processes — without being in the gym, at competitions, or on site.
Can you help if I’ve never directed a guard program before?
Yes, absolutely. Starting a program for the first time can feel overwhelming but you don’t have to figure it out alone. Whether you're coming from a performer background or simply stepping in to lead, I can help guide you through the entire process. From building your first season calendar to understanding show design, managing rehearsals, and supporting students, I’ll break everything down into clear, manageable steps. This service is designed to meet you exactly where you are.
Can you help with both creative and logistical planning?
Yes and the balance between those two is actually one of my specialties. I support both the artistic side of your program (show concept, choreography, performance training) and the structural side (rehearsal schedules, staffing, communication, budgeting). Many new directors feel confident in one area but less sure in the other that’s where I come in. We’ll look at your full picture and focus on what’s most urgent, whether that’s building a training plan or figuring out how to stretch a tight budget. With tools, templates, and guidance, I help make both sides of the job feel manageable and aligned.
How do we define the objective for my team?
We start by looking at your current reality your members, your staff (if any), your resources, and your past experiences (even if it’s your first year). From there, we’ll talk about your hopes for the program: what kind of culture you want to build, what kind of experience you want to offer your students, and how you define success. Then, we’ll shape a clear, achievable objective for the season that fits your values and your context. I’ll also help you define and build a long-term vision for growth and sustainability.
What if I don’t have a show yet or don’t know where to start?
That’s completely okay you’re not behind. Many start-up programs don’t have a show selected, music chosen, or even a performance plan in place. I can help you shape a realistic and engaging concept that fits your group’s size, skill level, and resources. We can start with your vision, your students’ abilities, or even just a mood you want to create. The goal is to create a show your team can perform with pride.

Hi, my name is Cynthia Bernard
Guard has always been part of my life: I live and breathe Color Guard and Drum Corps. I’ve been fortunate to grow alongside some of the best in our activity. Coming from Canada, I’ve also learned to be resourceful, creative, and resilient in the face of limited access. These lessons shaped the way I support others in reaching their highest potential.
